Illustration Friday - "Blanket"

Above is the color sketch I did and below is the final.

Here's another try at painting (gouache).  I was thinking of how kids hold onto their blankets when they're scared.  I think I like the color sketch better than the final.  I cut out the painting and put it on a black background in Photoshop.  I'm still trying to figure out if I like this???

I like how the monsters edges sort of fades into the white making him more ghostly and ... but I prefer the black version the childs arm... bed, ect. Great job

I really like this!! And I think I like the first better than the finished, also. Brings back some scary memories of monsters under the bed!

Great style and execution. I like the limited palette. Very clever having the monster recede into the wallpaper. Great job!

Very cool, I love the style, and the "wall monster" concept!

I think the black version is more striking, also ominous. Preference I guess depends on intent you choose to convey, eh? Nice work!

I like the final version best, except I like the two hands holding the blanket under the chin in the first draft better...the position of the hands anyway....really well done though and I think the idea is great !!

i'll figure this out for you...this is WHOMPIN good! love the cutout to black...really makes him that more menacing even tho he's a very cute little striped beastie. i love the gwosh, especially the feathered and choppy ends of the strokes, but there's something really neat about the abrupt black, off the stripes. and the color. i really dig your color sense! :)

This is great. I like how you pulled in the black around the final shape.

I think the black works well; it adds fear or uncertainty, in my opinion. I like this, and your previous post's, style direction.

Great work, very telling!

Nahh, don't do that to yourself! The final version works better, the way you cut out the monster into black makes it scarier. And the expression on the kid's face also works better in the final.
